The Oregon Trail for the Apple II

Spread the love

Came also out for:

Atari 8-bit
DOS
Macintosh
Windows
Windows 3.x

Game description:

As a covered wagon party of pioneers, you head out west from Independence, Missouri to the Willamette River and valley in Oregon. You first must stock up on provisions, and then, while traveling, make decisions such as when to rest, how much food to eat, etc. The Oregon Trail incorporates simulation elements and planning ahead, along with discovery and adventure, as well as mini-game-like activities (hunting and floating down the Dalles River).

What I think:

I find it a little bit overrated, but it’s without a doubt still one of the better educational games.

I just wish it wouldn’t be to repetitive and that your party doesn’t get so ill or even die so early in the game.

And if you are wondering from where I got the names from, it is from a TV series known as “Little House on the Prairie”, which is loosely based on the best-selling “Little House”-book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

  1. Woot! The legendary edutainment game has arrived! Okay, that's probably a bit of a stretch, but the game is still good fun and requires some common sense and a little critical thinking to survive. Those sure were difficult times… can you imagine if everything we have now just ceased to be and people were forced to live like the old pioneers and settlers? People think it's tough just to go one day without the Internet…

  2. @Highretrogamelord89 Lol, I know right? But I remember these two kids back when I was in high school who were literally crying because the Internet was down for ONE DAY… turns out they were super fans of anime, video games, and chat rooms too. Not to put too much of a stereotype on it, but why am I not surprised and I feel so… indifferent? :/

  3. I love this game but I played this on a Macintosh SE in kindergarden is that even possible because im thinking about tracking down this game along with an old computer but i need to know what i should specifically get.
